The Grey Knights

Daemon Hunters of the Imperium — Adeptus Astartes, Chapter 666

Overview

The Grey Knights are the Adeptus Astartes chapter dedicated to hunting daemons and Chaos sorcerers, operating under the command of the Emperor. The existence of the highly secretive Chapter is virtually unknown outside of the Inquisition and the highest echelons of the Imperial adepta, and is a well-guarded secret enforced by mind-wipes and even assassination of Imperial citizens if necessary.

Unlike other Space Marine Chapters, every single Grey Knight is a psyker — a warrior capable of wielding the psychic might of the Warp as a weapon. This extraordinary trait makes them uniquely suited to battling the daemonic servants of the Ruinous Powers.

Origins & Recruitment

Recruits are drawn directly from Black Ships and brought to Titan for testing. To join, a candidate must pass the six hundred and sixty-six Rituals of Detestation and undergo extensive psycho-surgery that erases most memories to ensure absolute loyalty.

Founding

The Grey Knights were founded by the Emperor Himself, who recognized the need for a specialized chapter to combat the growing threat of Chaos and daemons. Created with the aid of Malcador the Sigillite during the Horus Heresy, they serve as Humanity's greatest weapon against the forces of Chaos. They bear the unique honour of being implanted with gene-seed engineered directly from the genome of the Emperor Himself.

Abilities & Powers

Every Grey Knight is a psyker trained to channel psychic energies into a protective halo known as The Aegis. This barrier shields them from the corrupting influence of Chaos, making them all but immune to daemonic possession and psychic assault.

◆ The Aegis

A psychic halo of protective energy shielding the warrior from Warp corruption.

◆ Hammerhand

Amplifies physical strikes with raw psychic force, devastating daemonic foes.

◆ Gate of Infinity

Allows the squad to teleport across the battlefield through controlled Warp jumps.

◆ Vortex of Doom

Summons a destructive vortex of psychic energy that tears apart all it touches.

Common Units

Due to the unique manner in which the Grey Knights are recruited and trained, each warrior progresses through a series of pre-ordained ranks. These squads operate independently across the galaxy, responding wherever the threat of Chaos arises.

  • Grey Knights Terminator Squad

The mainstay of the Chapter. Heavily-armoured warriors armed with Storm Bolters and a variety of Nemesis Force Weapons, these formidable warriors are always at the forefront of any Grey Knights attack. Their armour is proof against most attacks while their complement of heavy weapons proves deadly at close range.

  • Grey Knights Strike Squad

Strike Squads often form the vanguard of a Grey Knights' strike force. Deployed via fixed teleporter to seize vital locations, they lay down punishing Storm Bolter and Psycannon fire in support of the main assault. Equipped with boltguns or psycannons.

  • Grey Knights Interceptor Squad

Interceptor Squads carry personal teleporters — backpack-sized devices allowing site-to-site teleportation without massive shipboard arrays. They can "shunt" through Warpspace to cover great distances and react to battlefield circumstances on the fly.

  • Grey Knights Purgation Squad

Purgation Squads deliver punishing firepower, carrying up to four heavy weapons per squad. Their armaments are twice as deadly and ten thousand times more valuable than those of conventional Space Marine fire support squads.

Relics of Titan

Characters may be equipped with legendary relics recovered from the vaults beneath the Citadel of Titan:

  • Fury of Deimos — A storm bolter of extraordinary power and ancient manufacture.
  • Soul Glaive — A force halberd whose blade burns with eternal psychic fire.
  • Destroyer of Crys'yllix — A Nemesis Daemon hammer forged to slay the mightiest of Greater Daemons.

Homeworld: Titan

For almost one hundred standard centuries, Titan has been the secret fortress of the Grey Knights. Glittering in the darkness of Saturn's shadow, the ice moon bristles with orbital defence platforms and fleets of sleek grey vessels.

At the base of Mount Anarch rises the Citadel of Titan the Grey Knights' fortress-monastery. Built by the Emperor over ten thousand years ago, it endures through countless ages of war and strife. Festooned with Macrocannons and massive Lance turrets, it is a forbidding sight that welcomes no visitors.

Within the Citadel lies the Librarium Daemonica — the Imperium's foremost repository of knowledge relating to daemons, daemonology, sorcery, and the Ruinous Powers of Chaos.
